We face dilemmas every day- a pupil steals something then owns up; does praising the confession reinforce the stealing behaviour? and so on and so forth. This kind of dilemma splits staff and can lead to inconsistency if left alone. I visited a primary school recently whether this very issue had created huge debate and controversy- by opening up the channels for open and honest debate, a consensus was reached that telling the truth was seen as a good thing so should be encouraged.
